Named for the oven-shaped mud nest it builds on fence posts and utility poles — "hornero" means "baker" in Spanish. A ground-foraging ovenbird with warm rufous-brown plumage, it's a familiar, confident presence in open country and city parks alike.
Photographed at rest on the ground, the hornero's usual foraging posture as it searches leaf litter and open soil for insects and larvae.
