Burrowing Owl

A small, long-legged owl that nests in ground burrows rather than trees, often reused from vizcachas or armadillos. Unlike most owls it's frequently active by day, standing bolt upright at the burrow entrance on watch.

Spotted standing alert beside its burrow entrance in open grassland, the characteristic pose this species is known for — scanning for movement before ducking back underground at the first sign of a threat.
